OPPI Lakeland District is pleased to host another opportunity to view this important film exploring practical, community-driven solutions to Canada’s housing crisis.
About the Film
In this documentary, Dr. Brian Doucet travels from coast to coast, highlighting innovative policies, programs, and projects that are reshaping how communities deliver and sustain genuinely affordable housing.
The film explores a range of approaches, including:
The use of public land to support non-market housing in communities such as Kitchener and Whistler
Inspiring Indigenous-led developments in Vancouver
Strong tenant protection and rent control frameworks in British Columbia and Prince Edward Island
Through these examples, Dr. Doucet demonstrates how transformative, actionable strategies can improve housing outcomes in communities of all sizes.
Featuring interviews with more than 30 planners, policymakers, elected officials, developers, residents, and housing advocates, the film both informs and challenges viewers. It encourages reflection on the root causes of Canada’s housing crisis while showcasing pathways toward more equitable, sustainable, and long-term housing solutions.
